| Alliance Spacesystems designed and manufactured a damped structure used on a telecommunications spacecraft payload. Developed to meet a customer need to reduce payload response to a new launch vehicle environment, the structure reduces the payload response by half through the use of an extremely stiff backbone structure of K13C2U/954-3 composite laminate supporting unique sets of flexures and viscoelastic dampers. The design, 0.8 meters wide by 0.3 meters high, also reduced weight in comparison to the original structure by half and reduced the number of attach points from more than 20 to just three. This is a recurring product with deliveries exceeding 20 units. | | | | | |
