| NASA is investigating numerous future missions that depend upon precisely
controlled formations of coordinated observing platforms to enable a variety
of interferometric measurements, imaging and complex communications networks. Future
uses of interferometry systems require innovative, low-cost, low-power,
low-mass precision instrument pointing systems that permit arc-second or
better accuracy. For NASA’s Lightweight Balloon Interferometer,
Alliance Spacesystems performed the instrument configuration and design,
and produced the optical bench, the interferometer translation mechanism,
environmental enclosure, and performed structural and ray trace analysis. |
